10 Most Beautiful/Ugly DSLR’s Ever Created
I don’t plan on writing a lot about gear on my blog since I believe the camera to be only about 1/10th of the total equation for being a successful photographer. That being said, who doesn’t want to look like a total badass at a shoot by pulling out the most prestigious and elegant looking equipment around. I am going to act like an absolute cretin here and judge based only on aesthetic value. Being a designer I can always appreciate a well designed instrument, but as we all know sometimes the most beautiful things are also the least functional. Keeping that in mind I present to you the Tour Guide’s top 10 most beautiful/ugly DSLR’s to date. I thought it might be a fun water cooler kind of discussion. All in all it is a pretty stupid post. Don’t make too much out of it.

Top 10 Ugliest DSLR’s:10. Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D: The only thing I can figure out about this camera’s design is the R&D team came in one morning and decided they no longer gave a shit. The left hand side of the camera is almost non-existent on the front and on the back everything is so crammed together there is no way you can use those buttons. The pop up flash/viewfinder looks as if the camera was dropped on it, the style of the grip in no way matches the design of the rest of the body, 1996 called…they want their Dynax 500si back.
9. Olympus E-400: Everything about this camera is just ugly. The terrible rectangle shaped buttons, the bizarre alien shape of the hand-grip and the projectile shaped viewfinder, yuck! What is the deal with the shutter release button being silver and why is the body around it pushing up out of the design like a tumor about to push through the skin? On the back of the camera why is there a large amount of negative space top-left beside the viewfinder? It looks like something is missing.

Sony DCR-SR200, VCL-R2037 S Tele Lens X 2.0, and The Moon
Testing my Sony DCR-SR200 camcorder equipped with the Sony VCL-R2037 S Tele Conversion X 2.0 Lens. Some notes... See the man on the moon! All footage was well into the digital zoom realm of the camera. Maximum telephoto zoom was reached in this demo: X 160. One of the trickiest parts was finding out how fast the moon actually moves at this range; needed to reposition the tripod settings every few moments. With regards to the lens, when attached to the camera, a tripod is a near must. I believe it somehow messes up or even disables the Sony SteadyShot picture stabilization function. Editing involved slightly lessening of brightness. Oooh! Aaah! Look at those craters on the moon!...
